One of the critical challenges that business owners, CEOs and
senior managers will face is that of establishing a culture where its employees
or staff do not continue to make the same mistakes or errors in judgment over
and over again. Now a fantastic method by which this can be achieved is through
corporate coaching; the sharing as well as the acquisition of key learning
points by as many within such firms.
Now
although the knowledge that a firm has obtained over the years in the course of
doing business is important, such knowledge, is not useful if not properly
applied and, then utilized giving it a decisive edge over its competition. And,
so coaching offer companies with the opportunity to share and spread this very
important knowledge throughout the company. Therefore, through coaching, the
much needed knowledge becomes available to all. Also, over time with this
practice in place corporate knowledge develops and persists even after key
individuals have left.
However,
some factors should exist before any manager or individual can be said to be an
efficient coach. And, three of such factors include:
1 Establishing the right environment
Creating
the right conditions plus environment is critical to the success of corporate
coaching. That is not establishing barriers to learning since coaching is
essentially the art of assisting individuals to learn. And, the blame syndrome
(i.e. a situation where people fear being blamed for mistakes they make) is a
major barrier that prevents people from taking initiatives and thus encouraging
the unwillingness to learn from mistakes.
2 Being driven by the right motives
Possessing
the right motives for coaching is important to its success. Such motives include
integrity as well as sincerity. For example, it is possible for coaching to be
used as a means of bringing others down or for fault finding. Now it is obvious
that such actions will certainly not yield the best results if any.
3 Being a good example
Actions
they say speak louder than words and this is true with respect to coaching as
well. Consequently, an effective coach is one that lives by the coaching
principles that he/she sets. Doing otherwise, will be quickly identified by those
individuals such person coaches and bring this manager of people to disrepute.
Thus, making such person’s coaching ineffective.
